E found here Ah alt lit poetry First of all this chapbook has some lovely moments In fact in one of my poetry classes in college we had to pick a poet s style to emulate and use as inspiration and I was so in love with the cat poem because it s probably the best existential animal poem ever written that I chose Spencer Madsen I badgered him over email until he sold me a copy of a million bears and set to work There are some great lines and thoughts that encouraged me to switch up my style adopting a personal concise toneHowever the same professor and poet who taught this class gave a piece of advice that sticks in my mind when I read any poem basically that poetry is discernable from random snippets of writing in its intentI like Madsen I enjoy his style Alt lit poetry is a fascinating world But as many times as Madsen so perfectly captured human emotion confusion inner monologue and pop culture he also seemed to be stumbling over things with little intent which at times made it hard to find anything to tie his words down I see a point and at times it was cutting and emotive but altogether I feel like I still need something that was promised and not uite fulfilled That being said I ll probably pick it up again when I m feeling angsty and itchy I am interested in reading of Madsen s work as well to see how he grows the raw seeds of poetry encapsulated in this chapbook Sweet for Her (Sweet Curves in one of my poetry classes The Purpose-Guided Universe in college we had to pick a poet s style to emulate and use as The Abel & Cole Veg Box Companion inspiration and I was so The Academy in love with the cat poem because Full Dark, No Stars it s probably the best existential animal poem ever written that I chose Spencer Madsen I badgered him over email until he sold me a copy of a million bears and set to work There are some great lines and thoughts that encouraged me to switch up my style adopting a personal concise toneHowever the same professor and poet who taught this class gave a piece of advice that sticks If Only Once (The Martelli Brothers, in my mind when I read any poem basically that poetry 1000 sitios que ver en España al menos una vez en la vida is discernable from random snippets of writing La ética de la crueldad in 3052 its Intégrale Gunnm Last Order Other Stories intentI like Madsen I enjoy his style Alt lit poetry Mercator is a fascinating world But as many times as Madsen so perfectly captured human emotion confusion Pasos perdidos en Granada inner monologue and pop culture he also seemed to be stumbling over things with little Suffering and no suffering intent which at times made Can We Live 150 Years? it hard to find anything to tie his words down I see a point and at times The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears it was cutting and emotive but altogether I feel like I still need something that was promised and not uite fulfilled That being said I ll probably pick Robs Shiny Dumptruck it up again when I m feeling angsty and Roller Girl interested Mama Glow in reading of Madsen s work as well to see how he grows the raw seeds of poetry encapsulated Fire in the Sky in this chapbook

Dition can b My review for Madsen recently sent me the manuscript of his new book a million bears I was looking forward to there being bears but there was a lack of bears What there was though was an abundance of pure unadulterated emotionSpencer Madsen gets deep in some of these poems the first poem includes these lines there is a reason for why i feel weird but the reason is why i feel weird so i don t want to think about itThroughout the book we have moments like this where the speaker in the poem acknowledges his feelings and the reasons for those feelings but is afraid to confront them50 Cent and Kanye West make various appearances in the form of retweeted tweets This is the part of the book I felt unsure about I m sure other readers will enjoy it thoughthere isnt room in my stomach for my feelings she screamed i dont know who i am in your headMadsen is at his best when he writes like that with this deep psychological stuff happening behind the poemThe poems that are explicitly about failed relationships are great and make me sad a little bitI am going to type various lines from the book that I enjoyed now in no particular order like a movie i thought and felt sarcastic againlife is like something stupidmy cat told me my thumbs are stupidi am uncomfortableI will type until you are happyif you want a girlfriend just do push upsThis book is really great You should read it I feel like Spencer Madsen gets to the heart of what being human is
