Castaway Dreams

Sense a most useful skill when putting together an ensemble This unlikely pair and Pompom will have to figure out how to survive together and may discover that each holds attractions not obvious at first or even second glance Such a different and fun book This was a light hearted regency The characters and setting were a bit different The hero was a staid and grumpy naval surgeon on his way home to England The heroine was an heiress who had run away with a fortune hunter who had since died and she was on her way home to England too Of course they have nothing in common and get cast away together on an island in the Caribbean Daphne was a wonderful character She is a little or maybe a lot goofy naive and trusting always happy and looking for the best in everyone She didn t know much because she had been sheltered all her life and nothing much had ever been expected of her except that she look pretty Alexander was a surgeon who had been born a bastard and his life had been shaped by that reality He was of a serious bent of mind naturally and had spent the last 20 years or so at sea in the company of men so Daphne was totally out of his realm of realityWhen they become stranded together though they learn to depend on each other and see beneath the surface Alexander teaches Daphne to take care of herself and she delights in becoming a useful person Daphne in return teaches Alexander to smile and accept love into his lifeWonderfully written Although it had plenty of elements of farce I didn t notice any glaring anachronisms or missteps with the historical researchReally fun and I recommend it and am looking forward to reading other books by this author

Daphne Farnham and her fluffy little dog While the dog could be supper she’s useless Daphne can’t understand why the humorless surgeon doesn’t like her everyone likes her She’s beautiful rich and has excellent fashion Really really liked this My first from this author and I will be back for I did have a few problems with it At times it seemed to be moving a bit slow for me but once they washed up on the island it picked up pace Before then I was entertained but my mind was starting to wander Luckily I kept on moving on and was happily rewarded for my patience I also had a few misgivings towards the heroine Normally I love a fluffy empty headed heroine as long as she is in fact a razor sharp shark who can and will go screaming for your jugular But what you saw was what you got She really was a silly useless ball of fluff At times you were given hints that made you think that maybe you were wrong but nope I sum it up with her little tidbit about that Marie Antoinette person and that instead of telling the people to eat cake she should have told them to go eat meat and potatoes Her fluffy fluffyness was starting to rub me the wrong way but once we got to the island we get to know the real Daphne And she was a lovely vibrant young woman who was just untested You could even say that she flourished As did the good Dr This was the uintessential fantasy of being marooned on a tropical isle away from all the cares and strictures and judgements of society They were just two people working side by side each other to survive Loved it Our long suffering hero was also a delight I adore his type Stuffy brooding and always disapproving Daphne and Alexander were the perfect mismatched pair And he proves his love for her by flinging himself through a window like a madman Haha Loved it 45 stars
