Ssions as does Alex Turner a beautiful tavern owner determined to discover his true identity Keeping her near him and keeping her safe while keeping her curiosity at bay is the truest test of his skills as a chevalier In the dangerous world of revolutionary America where people aren't always who they seem to be will the chevalier be Alex's salvation or her rui This story pulled me in from the first pageAlexandra Alex Turner is an American tavern keeper in Philadelphia during the American Revolution She s young to be a tavern keeper but with her parents recently deceased and her twin brother busy formenting rebellion someone has to keep the tavern with its much needed incomegoingLe Chevalier de Mont Trignon has accompanied the Maruis de Lafayette to Philadelphia to gather information to send to the King of France An experienced spy Mont Trignon is not above dressing in ladies clothes to obtain the information he needs When he makes Alex s auaintance he is first interested then intriued by this American girl As he is in disguise he introduces himself as Marie de Noailles aunt of the Maruis de Lafayette But he wants her to know him as a man Happily for him Alex s tavern is a perfect spot for a spy to gather information He becomes a fixure at Turner s Tavern using his time there to both gather info and court AlexThe writing is smooth the descriptions interesting the love story believable This is a love story played out against the background of spying divided loyalties and intrigue Who can Alex trust Her childhood friend Angelina The kind French noblewoman Marie de Noailles The elegant Chevalier History plays an important role in this story but it doesn t overwhelm the romance I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance
