This is an absolutely adorable and well done ueer modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice that wins a lot of diversity bingo Our dear Lizzy is an out and proud lesbian Darcy a mix raced bisexual woman The secondary characters feature a trans and an ace character So Lizzy just finished university and has her internship at Rosings

Okay for this book is hard for me to review because for the first 200 pages I loved it I thought it was a smart and interesting retelling of PP that managed to translate the age old story into good modern terms But then it started to lose itself Some of the things I loved Lizzy She's such a great character Sisters Jane and Lizzy S

Very cute adaptation of Jane Austin's book through the LGBT community

  10. says:

This was a rewriting of Pride and Prejudice as a modern gay romanceI thought it was pretty well done I liked how she updated the characters Instead of being just rich the rich people were business people and the sisters were mostly turned into brothersThere was a paragraph toward that end that seemed over the top and the ending could have been better I don't remember the original Elizabeth Bennett being so wishy washy

When Lizzy Bennet first meets Darcy Williams there is an instant dislike between them As much as they try to avoid it their paths Ignore the awful cover and the lame title and the weak cover copy And when you get that far ignore the mediocre copy editing I know that s a lot to ignore but if you do your reward is one of the better Pride and Prejudice tributes While PP is one of my favorites or because I don t go out of my way to find tribute stories That s because too many authors forget to let the characters breathe and you end up with a story that is either too rigidly adherent to the details of the original or one that goes out of its way to differentiate against it It s seldom that you get a nice balance of recognizable structure but with bits and pieces that are their own beautiful thing Watson manages that and I was glad to enjoy itSome of my favorite innovations Charlotte and Collins being a weirdly compatible love match George Wickam s predations being non sexual but still as damagingly corrupting Pembroke and Rosings the related publishing houses MaryMark s weird vibe being less socially and internally damagingPeople will probably glom onto the lesbian pairing as the innovation but I think that mainly served as a way to give the author permission to make her own changes Which is a good thing because the romance worked pretty much as it shouldIt s not all roses though The drama tended to be drawn out a little long for my taste And the Bingley and Jane timing didn t ring true three months in a modern context didn t really work And I couldn t help feeling like Watson was dipping pretty heavily in the LGBT bag and having a lot of coming out that wasn t helped by the uniform affirmative reactions And the Wickam plotcounter plot was rather tediously drawn out on screen even beyond the drama extension mentioned aboveStill this is a solid four stars for all of that I enjoyed the lead characters and their friends and family worked pretty well as both stand ins for their originals and yet remain uniuely their own So good work I thinkA note about Chaste Also true to the original and in an excellent way this story culminates with the pledge of love and devotion and then ends So there s a kiss and that s pretty much all So another excellent feature and very well done The Love of a Latino reward is one of the better Pride and Prejudice tributes While PP is one of my favorites or because I don t go out of my way to find tribute stories That s because too many authors forget to let the characters breathe and you end up with a story that is either too Other Days, Other Eyes rigidly adherent to the details of the original or one that goes out of its way to differentiate against it It s seldom that you get a nice balance of Deception Island recognizable structure but with bits and pieces that are their own beautiful thing Watson manages that and I was glad to enjoy itSome of my favorite innovations Charlotte and Collins being a weirdly compatible love match George Wickam s predations being non sexual but still as damagingly corrupting Pembroke and Rosings the The Family related publishing houses MaryMark s weird vibe being less socially and internally damagingPeople will probably glom onto the lesbian pairing as the innovation but I think that mainly served as a way to give the author permission to make her own changes Which is a good thing because the The First Partition of Poland romance worked pretty much as it shouldIt s not all The Hero of Varay roses though The drama tended to be drawn out a little long for my taste And the Bingley and Jane timing didn t Palestrina and Other Plays ring true three months in a modern context didn t Blackmailed By Daddy really work And I couldn t help feeling like Watson was dipping pretty heavily in the LGBT bag and having a lot of coming out that wasn t helped by the uniform affirmative उरलं सुरलं [Urla Surla] reactions And the Wickam plotcounter plot was Cock Tales rather tediously drawn out on screen even beyond the drama extension mentioned aboveStill this is a solid four stars for all of that I enjoyed the lead characters and their friends and family worked pretty well as both stand ins for their originals and yet Son of the Hero remain uniuely their own So good work I thinkA note about Chaste Also true to the original and in an excellent way this story culminates with the pledge of love and devotion and then ends So there s a kiss and that s pretty much all So another excellent feature and very well done
