Read this thinking it would be a light no brainer holiday read and was pleasantly surprised I found the layout of the book with it short chapters on individual events made for an easy read but the subjects covered were very varied and interesting Not having done French history I don t suppose many brits do I found some of the topics covered fascinating and it was good to have the background to some of the events explained The smaller epilogue type pieces at the end of the chapters were very good as well Memoirs of Madame de La Tour du Pin like De Gaulle and Napole. Sitting in the middle of a triangle of serious comment wry cultural miscellanea and cheery abuse this vo. Maybe it s because I m French but I found that most of his reasons do not apply to the whole population If you want to use those reasons just call it 50 reasons to hate Paris or something We are not all like the people in Paris And some of his reasons are downright stupid Hate the French because of Serge Gainsbourg Seriously Plus I have found than one lie in this book I thought I would be amused maybe even relish in our flaws we are late and we are rude yes but not all of us but this was just hurtful and wrong Sorry
